If you're a collector of hardbacks probably not. If you just want to read them there should be paper back versions or amazon sells online copies for i think $6 each on kindle. Either that or there are fan translated copies online for free.

DriftingBlade

Ah, well I just really like hardcovers. I read all of Berserk online, but I've been getting the hardcovers just because I want to have them. Perhaps I should read online/buy digital, and then get them maybe...though I'm pretty sure I'll like the LN a lot

-Raivier

If it's a matter of simply wanting the hard covers to have them then it really comes down to if you want to read it in a physical book or online since im sure you'll enjoy the LN if you liked the anime. I personally like the LN alot as the anime often cuts out some of the character building and bits of story. As with most anime adaptations.

DriftingBlade

This is exactly why, especially after hearing about the huge cuts recently. Plus, books/manga always have so much more content, and for me I've found reading to be as enjoyable as watching. Though I've never read a light novel, I assume it's basically like manga in words alone lol

-Raivier

Yes alot of cuts. I tried to find a scene from volume 13 in the anime and in the 3 or 4 episodes i quickly glanced over they somehow covered over 2 volumes worth of story and i gave up trying to find the scene in the end anyway.

Randomlettersjfuix

Volume 13 is being made into a movie

-Raivier

ah, so they skipped them entirely in season 4? Explains alot, thanks!

Randomlettersjfuix

Both 12 and 13, I think it’s because if they ended at 12 instead of 14 it would feel meh but their still rushing it a ridiculous amount.

DriftingBlade

I think I'll definitely enjoy it more now though, I can easily put their voices into the characters ect. I think I'd enjoy refreshing the story too

H0lOW

You won't find anything from books 12 and 13 because it will be a movie

Ak41_Shu1cH1

if you're gonna read them online, I suggest just reading the fan translation as they're actually better than the official translations. then, if you want, you can support the author seperately. Only read the official translations if you prefer reading physical books.

DriftingBlade

I like both I'll be reading the fan translation because someone let me know they even cut and added stuff to the official translation

H0lOW

No soft cover only hard cover, best option is online version

Alchhoanfia

Last when I checked the prices, each book was around $20 for a hardcover

DriftingBlade

Yea, usually I think. With the sale I'm technically getting the 12th free. So, basically thr same price just all together.

alpharights

Rightstuf sells them at a cheaper price if you're in the US. Highly recommend getting it from there instead esp since they package their books much, much better than amazon

alive123seven

You are getting each book at 18.33$ compare that price to other novels to determine if they are ripping you off. Otherwise it's just if the product arrives damaged or not.

neodarkwolf

If in US currency, each volume (hardcover) is roughly $20, so $240 if bought individually. If in CAD currency, each volume is roughly $25, so $300 if bought individually. If you don't care about the condition of the books, you'd be saving $20USD ($80CAD). Otherwise, buy individually and you'll be able to handpick the quality. Of course, this is assuming you want the book version, otherwise you can get the digital copy. Personally, I like the feeling of a book and reading it. Not a fan of digital. Personal preference.

Erasmus_Tycho

I've not found a physical copy I can "hand pick" from... So it's all just online orders.

Oliver---Queen

Yep true at least in my experience if you can find it on the shelf it’s rare that they have more than 1 copy of that particular volume in stock.

ILoveCats1155

I don’t recommend buying those, translations are terrible. *Crys in “nation of darkness”*

69macncheese69

So dumb

ILoveCats1155

What’s so dumb?

69macncheese69

Calling it the nation of darkness

pokekiko94

Not that much, i bought the first 3 on amazon for about 20€ each around the time the 2nd season finished and considering thats 12 that price is actualy cheaper without counting the shippement fees.

stepping_

I really do suggest the fan translations over this. "Kingdom of darkness" makes me cringe so hard.

shiny_light

RightStufAnime is the cheapest source for hardcovers (I got mine from there for like $14.?? each)

DriftingBlade

Are they good quality? I'm always afraid of getting torn up stuff

SirThin5545

They're good to go. I've gotten multiple orders in from them and never had an issue

DriftingBlade

I'll look into it! Thank you

DriftingBlade

THANK YOU Got it just about $200, and with PayPal I split the payment

shiny_light

Yes they’re brand new

TactlessNachos

There are Amazon price trackers that give history of prices. I used to use camelcamelcamel. I'd set up email alerts when it hit a certain price.

Jeptwins

Actually that’s a pretty good price, all things considered. For 12 books, that’s an average price of $18.33

_Burgr

as a batch deal i think it's reasonable i bought a couple volumes by themselves for around $25 CAD each so you can do the math

DriftingBlade

How are the translations for the volumes you bought? Someone else Said they weren't good

_Burgr

they were good for me iirc it's been a while since i read the hardcover

soAsian

barnes and noble sold each around vol @$20 which sounded about right for this bundle but you should check the seller

igordaub

I'd like to warn you, that if you haven't read any light novels, you should try to read one before getting the whole bundle. Basing on my experience they are really hard to read because they are a bit cringy and not so good written as normal books. I got stuck on 8th volume despite of being a fan of the overlord anime

Oliver---Queen

The main issue is that it was not written originally in English so some parts do get wonky after translation. I could only imagine the same happens after being translated from Japanese to other languages.

igordaub

I think that is all about the anime-ish style. There are a lot of Japanese books translated in English that are pretty good. For instance Higashino Keigo, Shusaku Endo, Haruki Murakami and etc.

Oliver---Queen

If it’s USD then yeah it’s actually not bad if I remember correctly I got my copies for around $20 each at Barnes and noble so you save a little bit buying in a bundle like this.

Rufus_king11

[rightstuf](http://rightstuf.com) has them in stock for $15.99 each and free shipping on any order over $75. So that would be $191.88 for the first 12 volumes, and rightstuf packages there stuff way better than Amazon. This is assuming you live in the US.

DriftingBlade

THANK YOU Got it just about $200, and with PayPal I split the payment

bryku

**HOLY CRAP!**   The prices all went up $5 on amazon. They were just $15 like 6 months ago, I helped my buddy find the links. Now they are around $20 each, so you would be saving a bit of money here.   Even the digital version is more expensive. Yenpress be making that money I guess.   **Used Books** Amazon does sell used books. Most of them are in great condition. I've bought maybe 20~ or so used book from amazon and they have all looked brand new. I think 1 had a crease in it once, but that was it.   It is a great option if you are not sure about the series or on a budget. However, if this is something you are trying to collect, there is a bit of a risk. The books won't be 100% perfect.

GeneralTanya

12 volumes collection for $220 is pretty reasonable if all the books are new. You can probably get it a bit cheaper if you order them separately and if they are used ones. I pay more than 220 for all the books because i order all of mine at pre-order full price during each release. So i say $220 it's not a really rip off. It's pretty fair if they are all new hardcover books. And if you are really into paper instead of digital, then this is the way to go.

ProgrammerMoist9616

I saw this and was considering getting it.

DriftingBlade

I got it on RightstuffAnime Someone linked it in the comments. But it was like $206 free shipping, and I could pay with PayPal to split the payment

RobertC4_FL

Can you save a few bucks using rightstuffanime, and I trust the care with shipping and handling more than amazon.

DriftingBlade

Thsts what I did! Even got to split the payment because PayPal. Thank you though!

RobertC4_FL

No worries, enjoy the books!

SettingPresent9574

If this is in USD then thats a really good price!!! That is if you want to collect em all... I only have three of the books and honestly theyre a pretty good quality for light novels (A lot of novels like slime novel feel a bit cheapy ngl). I buy them for around 24$ so youre saving like 20$

SDCauter

My friend bought them and the fan translation seems to be better overall.

69macncheese69

I would recommend buying the official translation only as a means to support the author if you want, and still reading the fan translation. Or just read the fan translation. The official one kinda sucks, they changed things unnecessarily for the worse and even removed some scenes and replaced them with their own fanfiction for no reason.

DriftingBlade

Why would they be allowed to do that?

69macncheese69

Your guess is as good as mine, there wasn't any reason to do with localization or anything else really as far as I can tell. They also did a lot of dumb name changes, like calling the sorcerer kingdom 'the nation of darkness', which directly goes against the image ainz canonically wants, doesn't sound as good, it's not what the author wrote and there's literally no reason for it. Idk.

DriftingBlade

Well, I still would like to have the physical ones hahaha But where would a good online fan translation be?

69macncheese69

If you can afford it it's the best way to support the author I guess, if he had a patreon or something I'd donate straight to him but oh well. Overlord subreddit > menu > fan releases or something like that

DriftingBlade

Hey man, thank you! This is why I wanted to read it I was fine with a Mid translation as I know names ect. Already, but cutting shit from a translation is a no no...

69macncheese69

No problem, welcome to the club! :) Yeah, totally agree.

Shit_Smeller69

The price is pretty reasonable, but I wouldn't recommend ordering from Amazon because the books usually arrive damaged. I've never had any problems with damaged books when I've ordered from Book Depository, so I'd recommend them.
