It confused me for awhile in TGH. Especially once Domon arrived in Falme and you had Doman surrounded by Damane in land disputed by Domani
Just thankful Bayle Domon didn't dominate a Domani damane in Arad Doman
By my aged grandmother, this do be unacceptable.
That he didn't or that it's ridiculously hard to say?
Fortune prick me, I don't know I just wanted to make a joke about how Illianers (and thus, Domon) speak.
By the light I meant no disrespect. Peace favor your sword.
I thought Domani was a country of escaped Damane for several books.
Me tooo lol
Demandred and Damodred
*Death rides on my shoulder, death walks in my footsteps; I am death…*
When Falion died in AMoL, I assumed she was under compulsion since there was never any indication that she was Black Ajah. Turns out I had Falion confused with Faolain.
Only one of them sours milk as a hobby.
Honestly, I still have no idea who's who.
User name checks out
No hate for Mat though, I usually just call my favorite characters dumb. He is frustrating at times.
Verin said to Perrin that the Damane had escaped with a Domani
While Lelaine, Elayne, and Egwene skipped down the lane.
*Hums softly & tugs earlobe*
Leane was waiting for them.
In Book 9, Mossima and Mishima (zero clue if either spelt correctly) are both hanging around Perrin.
But Damane should be pronounced Dah-mah-neigh
And Domani Doh-mah-nee
Yes, but the narrator did not receive the memo
Jordan told them to pronounce things as they saw fit. So there was no memo.
After listening and reading, I started to auto correct in my head....
*do 'ma ni* with a vaguely Mediterranean accent
*da ma ne* like a hillbilly neckbeard weaboo would say it
Me too! I keep wondering why perrin questions himself like an aes sedai
Bran and Rand kept tripping me up in EotW.
*If it hurts too much, make it hurt someone else instead.*
That is kind of what we're doing here, Lews. Astute observation.
*A man without trust might as well be dead.*
Sucks to not have physical copies.
I have a physical copy of the World book but if there weren't audiobooks available I would have never read this series.
It was just a joke, don't take it so seriously. I don't judge how people consume their media.
I'm on a memory of light and suddenly Egwene is sleeping in the tent of someone named Vemerin or Sherin Sedai.
I can't tell who this person is and I was sure they were saying Verin Sedai at first! Even on reread I don't know who this person is
Why so many similar names
I literally just got to that part and was confused because I thought that one died. But it’s not that one. lol
I almost jumped when Rand embraced saidar
*Trust is death*
Aah English pronunciation, why do you do this to us?
I mean the words look nothing alike, how can you pronounce a+a+e the same as o+a+i :D
It's not even just English pronunciation, it's how vowels vary depending on your accent.
Those words sound pretty different in my (English as in England) accent.
I think Americans often don't make O sounds very distinctly different.
Yeah, and coming from a phonetical language (Finnish) there would be no way to confuse those words.
English is great in many other ways, but the pronunciation system is often confusing :D
Three languages in a trench coat, innit?
Well, I would 100% not understand (at least) one of these words said by the audio book then. I don't see another way to say Domani than basically Romani with a d instead of an r, so I am guessing they say Damane in three sylables like Da-Ma-Ne?
If you’re Seanchan, They often are the same!
yes took me 8 books to realise they are two different things
So true, I thought of this exact template the first time I got confused. I only got confused with Kate reading though for some reason. Great job!
Wait, is it pronounced da-man-e? I've always pronounced it da-mane.
The glossary gives the pronunciation as da ma ne, yeah.
Obviously I can be confusing, but until we start dealing with damane domani I feel like context is enough to distinguish them. I mean one is referenced with terror or inhumanity and the other is just a description of nationality. Of course though I'm on the gathering storm on my 12th read through so it's probably because I read it so long ago that I have trouble recalling messing the two up.
Man the pronounciations are all over the place in this series, lol. I always read *damane* as "dah-main"
Good thing RJ wrote the series in a language that has no words that sound alike and mean completely different things. Otherwise this could have gotten really confusing.
