It confused me for awhile in TGH. Especially once Domon arrived in Falme and you had Doman surrounded by Damane in land disputed by Domani

drewtheblueduck

Just thankful Bayle Domon didn't dominate a Domani damane in Arad Doman

Geistbar

By my aged grandmother, this do be unacceptable.

Never_Less

That he didn't or that it's ridiculously hard to say?

Geistbar

Fortune prick me, I don't know I just wanted to make a joke about how Illianers (and thus, Domon) speak.

Never_Less

By the light I meant no disrespect. Peace favor your sword.

diffyqgirl

I thought Domani was a country of escaped Damane for several books.

LuvBoht

Me tooo lol

mathwin_verinmathwin

Demandred and Damodred

damodread

Yes?

Iforgotmypassword189

When Falion died in AMoL, I assumed she was under compulsion since there was never any indication that she was Black Ajah. Turns out I had Falion confused with Faolain.

mathwin_verinmathwin

Only one of them sours milk as a hobby.

Mat_Cauthon_is_dumb_

Honestly, I still have no idea who's who.

Iforgotmypassword189

User name checks out

Mat_Cauthon_is_dumb_

No hate for Mat though, I usually just call my favorite characters dumb. He is frustrating at times.

scotasloth

Verin said to Perrin that the Damane had escaped with a Domani

Lock-out

While Lelaine, Elayne, and Egwene skipped down the lane.

LewsTherinTelamonBot

*Hums softly & tugs earlobe*

Geistbar

Leane was waiting for them.

thinkingofacoolID

In Book 9, Mossima and Mishima (zero clue if either spelt correctly) are both hanging around Perrin.

Soda_BoBomb

But Damane should be pronounced Dah-mah-neigh And Domani Doh-mah-nee Right?

damodread

Yes, but the narrator did not receive the memo

SentrySappinMahSpy

Jordan told them to pronounce things as they saw fit. So there was no memo.

Swedesrfreds2222

After listening and reading, I started to auto correct in my head.... *do 'ma ni* with a vaguely Mediterranean accent *da ma ne* like a hillbilly neckbeard weaboo would say it

Resident_Guidance_95

Me too! I keep wondering why perrin questions himself like an aes sedai

AccountSuspicious159

Bran and Rand kept tripping me up in EotW.

AccountSuspicious159

That is kind of what we're doing here, Lews. Astute observation.

Business_Ad_932

Sucks to not have physical copies.

marxist-teddybear

I have a physical copy of the World book but if there weren't audiobooks available I would have never read this series.

Business_Ad_932

It was just a joke, don't take it so seriously. I don't judge how people consume their media.

1RedOne

I'm on a memory of light and suddenly Egwene is sleeping in the tent of someone named Vemerin or Sherin Sedai. I can't tell who this person is and I was sure they were saying Verin Sedai at first! Even on reread I don't know who this person is Why so many similar names

hermitsociety

I literally just got to that part and was confused because I thought that one died. But it’s not that one. lol

Alkakd0nfsg9g

I almost jumped when Rand embraced saidar

LewsTherinTelamonBot

*Trust is death*

Tuotau

Aah English pronunciation, why do you do this to us? I mean the words look nothing alike, how can you pronounce a+a+e the same as o+a+i :D

BreqsCousin

It's not even just English pronunciation, it's how vowels vary depending on your accent. Those words sound pretty different in my (English as in England) accent. I think Americans often don't make O sounds very distinctly different.

Tuotau

Yeah, and coming from a phonetical language (Finnish) there would be no way to confuse those words. English is great in many other ways, but the pronunciation system is often confusing :D

BreqsCousin

Three languages in a trench coat, innit?

leparrain777

Well, I would 100% not understand (at least) one of these words said by the audio book then. I don't see another way to say Domani than basically Romani with a d instead of an r, so I am guessing they say Damane in three sylables like Da-Ma-Ne?

Ramblingmac

If you’re Seanchan, They often are the same!

LuvBoht

Frfr

CommanderMaxil

yes took me 8 books to realise they are two different things

ReadEditName

So true, I thought of this exact template the first time I got confused. I only got confused with Kate reading though for some reason. Great job!

Accomplished_Mix7827

Wait, is it pronounced da-man-e? I've always pronounced it da-mane.

FuckThePopeJoinTheRA

The glossary gives the pronunciation as da ma ne, yeah.

checkmate191

Obviously I can be confusing, but until we start dealing with damane domani I feel like context is enough to distinguish them. I mean one is referenced with terror or inhumanity and the other is just a description of nationality. Of course though I'm on the gathering storm on my 12th read through so it's probably because I read it so long ago that I have trouble recalling messing the two up.

MauPow

Man the pronounciations are all over the place in this series, lol. I always read *damane* as "dah-main"

_iam_that_iam_

Good thing RJ wrote the series in a language that has no words that sound alike and mean completely different things. Otherwise this could have gotten really confusing.
