Making me want to get into PC just for modded versions of MW5 and XCOM.
Do it! You can get into modding HBS Battletech too. I'm playing it with the Battletech Advanced 3062 mod and it's an incredible experience
I know it is......I just don't KNOW where to look. (forgive my ignorance) on such matters.....Lol !! yeah' if i can grab HBS Battle Tech & MW5 I'll be a Fat Kid with Life Time Supply of Cake Happy !!. with MODS of course.........you need that Icing For The Cake....yu know ;)
r/BattleTechMods is a great place to start, have fun whatever course you take!
Nexusmods.com is the website a lot of communities use to distribute mods that don't have Steam Workshop support or something like Bethesda’s system.
Here's the link to the Battletech page [Battletech Nexus](https://www.nexusmods.com/battletech)
and this is MW5 [Mechwarrior Nexus](https://www.nexusmods.com/mechwarrior5mercenaries)
Most of the mods have some sort of basic install instructions like "unpack the .rar into X folder" or will link to a mod manager that handles it for you.
Nexus has their own mod manager called "Vortex" but for Battletech and MW5 I've seen suggestions from the mod makers to not use it. But I've had zero issues with it for other games like Skyrim and Fallout.
Just start with a simple mod that will be very obvious if it's working or not when you launch the game, like one that changes the HUD or skips the opening cinematic.
MW5 is available on a Humble Bundle right now, though you'll have to pay extra for the DLCs.
My current laptop is a budget model that I predominantly use for work and 3D modeling. It chugs just rendering sliced 3D print files. I've been looking into something a bit more robust, but I'm never going to be getting a proper desktop machine. MW5 seems... challenging even for a mid grade laptop, which is what I'm looking at.
The mods and native HOTAS support are certainly big draws though. I have a home built HOTAS and HOSAS rigged on a Dualshock 4, which makes it compatible with many devices. While it works really well when emulating older games, it's certainly not ideal.
i ran mw5 on a 3gb 1060 and aging i7 before i upgraded my gpu. so you might be able to get away with it on a mid grade laptop if you are lucky
It's great when heavily modded.
Honestly, it's great even vanilla. Modded just seems incredible from my console-only perspective.
THESE FEELINGS : " It's great when heavily modded."
Yes, Yes It Is...... " Modded just seems incredible from my console-only perspective. " EXACTLY !
These Are The Reason(s) WHY I'm Getting MW5 On My PC Rig As Soon As Possibly Can. At The Time; I Have Family Matters That Need My Attention.
Ey, I can give you the scoop. I bought a steam version of mw5 earlier this week, to experience the modding, and see if the game actually runs well (I have always had severe performance issues running it on ps4 pro), and yeah. I've been running this damn thing off a laptop and it is still amazing, even potato graphicsed to high hell. If you have the ability to buy it on pc, do it.
Shit's so good I'm considering taking the plunge and learning how to make my own mods just to get that much more out of it.
If you have an xbox I believe you can mod the game. Just dont install graphics mods or the xbox will be very unhappy
How does it have enough critical slots to do that, and what pack are you using? In YAML I seem to get the same number on every mech (1 head, 2 CT, 12 LT and RT and 10 arms-melee)
I don't know if the Longbow is done properly for Yaml but the current version allows this. Gyro removes 2 pieces in center torso for reduced weight and small cockpit removes weight and adds a slot to the head.
I see - and it's got 12-slot arms by default?
Yes, current version of it does.
...........Thats Just .......WoW !! :) nice. Truly nice.
Does this thing get obliterated by a stiff breeze? It has no armor.
why would it need any... It stands back at 5 klicks out and fires...
New DLC adds melee weapons.
Dammit Ryana - you couldn't drop us any closer? Maybe only running through 2km of missile salvos this time?
*sits in the corner of the map and nukes you*
not FIGURTIVALEY , but LITERALLY......Lol !!
you are gonna be doing a lot of punching after the 15th mech when you have run out of ammo...
That's when I bust out the second Longbow.
Pocket ~~sand~~ Longbow!
I dread to think about the rest of the lance!
How does one even use a weapon that long range? Every map seems to have obstacles preventing targeting from over 1km and often much less, and even in a wide open plain the limit seems to be pretty short.
Vonbiomes mod will have some really long distance maps sometimes that allow these kind of weapons to flourish.
How do you get locks though from that far away? That's incredibly far past the draw distance.
[My Sensor Mech](https://imgur.com/a/gCUKlcv)
yeah.....would like to know that one; as well. maybe because of the "MOD" it allows for you to "Lock" on targets easier at longer ranges......i'll assume until otherwise someone tells me differently i guess.....Lol ! yeah there' has to be "A Reason" how he's able to.
You don't need locks. You can "attack ground" and let 'em fly.
...FYI - Those nukes are NOT cheap but SOOOOO worth using a few in an urban map!
Attack ground from... where? Are you standing on top of a 10km pillar with LoS to everything?
Hmmm. Is this not the Battletech game page?.....scrolls up........my bad.
ohhh Wow. Now that .........IS great to know. hmmmmm. YES !
THIS IS WHAT ANNOYS THE FUCK OUTTA OF ME WITH MW5 !!!
that right there.........in MW4, MW3 . you had Range from what i remember. some range at least.....the Gauss, PPC's, LLasers, LPulseLasers,LBX, UAC's, LRM's, ArrowIV Systems ALL used to Fire Waaaay Beyond What YOU Could actually SEE in HUD of your cockpit with Ease......none of this "I cannot go there, terrain unavailable commander" / " Negative, Terrain Obstruction " .etc etc etc. this is ALL I Hear from ALL of the pilots ALL the DAMN TIME !!
and don't get me started on the Freaking Tanks.......how is it Tanks can Hit Us damn near 1 - 1 1/2 - 2 KM with ease and perfect AIM SIGHTING BUT we can barely dent their armor or even WHEN you use Artemis IV Sys LRM's have some sorta of "BULLET DROP" ??? like wtf ?? a actual bullet drop ?at long range then just falls down like harder then an Old Drunkard @ a late night bar...… seen missile groupings just fall into thin air like paperweights I've been on these BIOMES : Ice, Red Desert, Extra Solar Moon, Arid Canyon, Lush Canyon, Volcano, Sulfur, Tourmaline, etc (i selected these because ALL of these mostly NOT Always BUT Mostly have Flat Terrains on a lotta missions / Ops. again NOT Always but Mostly) and i don't get it. I can see in my HUD 1,250 meters and nothing BUT FLAT LAND no Obstructions or Deviations whatsoever. and i hear all of that Mess from my Pilots and enemy NPC Tanks just rolling around in between rock structures, rock formations. and We can't hit them or worse Artemis IV LRM's can't even scratch them or nothing ?? I've Perched My Command Mech at the top of hilltops, Mountain tops and gave orders to rain down hell on them and still no WIN nothing at all. Makes No Sense Whatsoever is what i say. .....its soo annoying & frustrating ALL the DAMN Time. but Yet i have a J.Edgar or Scorpion Light Tank or the LRM10 Boat tank(can't remember its name designation) just firing multiple Salvos of LRM10's streaking through the Stratosphere like a Hot knife through butter......its crazy. Makes no F\*\*KING Sense whatsoever !!
To answer some of your ...questions?...statements... whatever.
Energy weapons have a maximum range at which they are no longer capable of doing damage, Missiles also have a range at which their rocket motors burn out and they fall out of the sky.
Ballistic weapons OTOH have a stated maximum range but that is more of a general effectiveness and probability to hit recommendation than a true maximum "range". PPCs also don't really have a maximum range but like energy weapons lose power over distance until at extreme range you are doing little more than tickling your target with static electricity. I personally have shot down helicopters at 3+km with Gauss rifles but I run a couple of mods that don't really let things spawn in at extreme ranges in order to run the game easier. Most things spawn in my games at no more than 3-5 km away for air assets and most ground vehicles and mechs are even closer.
The enemy tanks being laser accurate also pisses me off but I believe its a balancing measure as tanks in this game pop like grapes when you engage them at close range. Skirmishing at long range and ambushing you up close with massed waves are really the only way they can do any damage at all.
Now there are a couple of mods that make tanks much more effective, increased armor, better weapons, increased numbers and less idiotic. Make sure you aren't running one of them without knowing about it if it bothers you that much.
Avengers: We have a hulk!
MechWarrior: Hold my beer
Can you even fire all of them without overheating? I have trouble with just two.
If you launch all 4 at once you won’t overheat until about half a second after
Yeah I can fire all 4, it puts me at 95 heat though so that's what the coolant is for.
ohhh Gud Merc, Nice One !
TBF after a single salvo most assault mechs would just be a burning pile of scrap....
I occasionally used this build in multi-player games back in MW4.
Being on the receiving end was.... not popular. I got head hunted alot running this mech.
Absolute mad lad. Would've loved to see it.
It was a pretty good mad lad mech. But the best troll mech in the game was also a longbow.
There were these sticky flare launchers you could add to a mech. They shed a blinding light and made a horrendous crackling noise. They also caused lots of lag on the victim.
The longbow could mount 16 flare launchers at once.
Is this a special variant? Usually the arrow iv system needs 12 critical slots so it only fits on the torso. And u need to have a standard engine on as well since u cant lose any space to torso. A single arrow salvo deletes anything under 25 tonnes 2 salvos drops anything below 35. 45 takes 2.5 salvos. 4 salvos would instantly cap anything without extra slotted ablative mark iv armor or black carapace harjell.
Clan Invasion yaml longbow doesn't have any arm or shoulder slots so the arms have 12 free slots.
Seems like a bug haha. No slots? Arms should have 10 and torso is 12. Unless it's a special variant like the 000 krabby
Arms have 12, -2 for actuators. Not having articulated arms leaves 12 slots.
What mod has this Longbow? Silby’s?
Clan Invasion mod, I'm using the yaml version.
Sweet! Going to give it a try thanks.
Make sure you always update it, it gets weekly updates.
What mod adds the Longbow? I totally need it!
Sadge. I wanted to build an Arrow IV mech, but can't since MercTech baits.
