There's a lot to consider when it comes to a Gears collection, and for the record I do hope Judgement is included with one. The main advantages of bringing these games over would be: \- Full native power of the Series S and X (Including PC), Allowing for all games to have a boost to 4k 120fps (Gears 1 Can currently hit this with fan builds like New Hope, and G3 can hit this easily as well with the leaked Dev builds). \- Actual PC releases with potential Crossplay for a bigger potential playerbase My main reasoning for wanting this collection is to get Gears 2 - Judgement on PC finally, and hopefully some huge fixes to the OG Gears 1 release and Ultimate edition which really needs it. But, I mainly want it for one thing: **PC MODDING SUPPORT + THE UNREAL EDITOR** Gears 1 is the only main line release back in 2007 that came with the Unreal Editor, allowing for people to create their own single player missions and multiplayer maps to share. A lot of these are still up online over on ModDB, and it's awesome playing maps created by people all the way in 2009. Gears really could do with community input in terms of content, be it via maps from an Unreal Editor or actual full on Mod support. There are some mods already for the official Gears 1 on PC, one notable one being [H.I.V.E](https://www.moddb.com/mods/hive-mode) by Bmbr1990, introducing a horde-like mode to the game with characters from the other games including weapons from up to Gears 4. Halo MCC is starting to include all dev tools for modding with the original titles with Steam Workshop support on the way. It is only going to increase the original Halo titles longevity with its playerbase and relevance, Gears of war is sorely lacking this. The Coalition really need to take advantage of community creativity and let it blossom. It's a damn shame that the only way for the community to have any creative input with a Gears title is a 2007 port that is no longer sold officially anymore and is tied down to GFWL.

WoodsBeatle513

Will the collection feature every Gears game or only the ones not ported to PC yet - 2, 3, Judgment Will PC have splitscreen and crossplay I hope every game will get the map editor in the original Gears 1 PC port In terms of customization, I'd wanna see any limited-time/pre-order bonus/DLC packs/Prizebox skins be unlockable via challenges and achievements. Gears 2 had gold pre-order skins, Gears 3 had flaming skins if you played the beta and many promotional items and Judgment had loot boxes. It'd be awesome if players could obtain these through conventional methods. if possible, the Coalition should allow players to transfer their stats and achievements Fix Judgment by removing loadouts and bringing back active reload, Locust faction, down but not out, and the classic control scheme for controller users

The problem with mod support, mainly, would be yet another way of segregating players into different queues. Plus, the overall community doesn't seem too interested in modding support given how hardly anybody even knew the map builder in Gears 5 was a thing. Granted it was completely half-baked and all that, but the goal was to give people something easy to use and Gears just doesn't lend itself well to that principle because of the way cover works and is interacted with. Not to mention it would also take away support from the main game, which coming from Gears 5 it only seems like taking that developer effort away would end up with a much worse game. MCC worked fine in that regard because those games were already made (and some of them already supported modes like Forge) and they just had to build up the services around them, getting that for Gears likely would mean rebuilding a lot of those systems and expanding them for external assets and all that.

As with the way Gears 2 to Judgment were structured by Microsoft's matchmaking servers it wouldn't be an issue. Map rotations are held by TC on Microsoft's servers, along with proper DRM would prevent exploit usage. (Just would need modded content to feed their own separate inis, which can only be accessed by private match host.) Simplest way can see the developers ever using mod creation would be to release two separate builds of the game. The second being a separate build with all of the game assets and an easy to access mod launcher. This would allow people to launch the editor, compile scripts without need of networking/engine code, cook/compress their content and submit to Microsoft's servers. (This would also mean those on the base game can just install mods without needing a separate one.) A Hat in Time, a game that runs on a modified version of UE3 close to Gears Judgment, uses this approach as an easy means for new content creators. Used in means of keeping file sizes smaller, while also not leaking any potential NDA disclosures between Epic and Microsoft. (The game also has support for nomod tag in private lobbies as this also allows for those who like to play vanilla to stick to vanilla.)

srylain

I didn't say there were technical reasons why they wouldn't allow modding, obviously there's always going to be some way to make it work, I just said it would further separate players from each other on top of however many playlists/queues the game itself would already have.

Green-Entertainer485

I hope PC players don't play together with console players because on PC it's easier to use hacks

Blank-VII

The best way to handle this is a crossplay toggle in the options. Pretty much every crossplay game has this nowadays so it should be fine.

Green-Entertainer485

But I think the toggle shoud be automatically set to not include PC players

canceroussky

We need the player base.

NcKvenomous

I hear u but low key on gow5 more people cheat with Chronus on console than actual PC hackers.

SupperIsSuperSuperb

I'd like to see a unified multiplayer experience based on 3's gameplay. Include maps from the previous two games in the series

Ecruteak_Flow

I like that concept. Essentially Gears 3 multiplayer but with every multiplayer map from across the trilogy. I just hope they integrate some of Judgement’s content and bring back starter loadouts.

SupperIsSuperSuperb

Judgement's maps might be harder since they're asymmetrical and had a ton of ledges you could drop off of. So it'd be interesting if how they'd play with 3's slower movement and if they'd keep the ledge falls. But the maps could likely work for horde at least. Overrun and the weapons introduced in Judgement would be more than welcome for sure

MjolnirN7

I hope if they do decide to bring MP back for all titles they seriously rebalance it. If you bring back to MP from 2 and 3 as is a lot of nostalgia filled people are gonna be shocked when all the dumb stuff from past gears multiplayers slaps them in the face.

-aarcas

Nah man I want that OG dank lag from Gears 1 & 2. Loved getting teleported when I'm trying to land a headshot.

srylain

You can still do that nowadays, just throttle your connection so you're dropping \~50% of all your packets.

-aarcas

I want everyone to suffer like it's 2008

JerryGoodtimes

I'd like to see these as a PC / Steam release as well, just like MCC.

GraysonHunt

With that, I’d like the campaign coop to be crossplay.

JerryGoodtimes

Yea it'd be sick. I mean, right now I've been playing 5 crossplay with my buddy whose on the Xbox so it would seem like its possible. Its also the kind of thing that Microsoft has been promoting more of (Xbox<->PC) anyway.

Newsleet12

A steam/PC release would be great, hopefully launch wouldn't be as bumpy as MCC and the release between Xbox and PC would be closer. If it does come out It's great MS is not ignoring that generation of gaming and allowing more gamers to experience it.

cerealbro1

It’s more than likely just an excuse to bring the original games to PC/Steam. Gears 2 will likely get the Ultimate Edition treatment and Gears 3 and Judgement will likely have some touch ups as well. Gears 5 had a great launch because Game Pass, but unsurprisingly PC numbers were atrocious, likely on account of the older games not being available. It’s definitely exciting though, assuming that us mostly console players get something out of it

D3DW0DonPC

Can you imagine no MTX like the MCC? That'd be cool but y'know, Triple-A gaming.

cozy_lolo

Zero chance of this. Less than zero, actually. This is The Coalition and MTX are in their DNA

Str8Nirvana

It's a bit iffy imo. I don't have faith in TC & MS to not fuck it up. At the same tome though, really looking forward to playing Gears 2&3 again. Especially if they get rid of the progression reset bug that they both had 👌 As for what's included, my guess is Gears UE, Gears 2 UE, straight up Gears 3 & Judgement ports with no changes. Probably all UE skins usable in the two UE games, I'd be shocked if they got the UE skins in 3/Judgement

verycoolguySmash

Bring back both Horde 1.0 and Horde 2.0 exactly as they were, because I know I won’t like Gears 6 Horde.

CyberPixelz

No out of map glitching in gears of war 2. No emotes. No smoke ragdoll

DWHallLiu

As long as I can play Beast Mode and Overrun again, I don't care what they do.

Ecruteak_Flow

I really wanna see how the multiplayer will work. Will each game have their respected multiplayer modes? Could they potentially bring in cut content? And how will we go about unlocking characters and potentially weapon skins? I hope they integrate the leveling system from UE for that last question.

Public_Enemyy

Expecting it to be like MCC with the Gears 3 challenges/medals system to be streamlined across all games and dedicated servers.

srylain

Honestly, the idea of having to play game modes you don't want to play or use weapons you don't want to use in order to unlock things wouldn't really fly these days with the average player. Especially with how many potential skins and whatnot that could end up in the game, some of the later ones would have crazy stupid requirements. Instead, having a rotating list of challenges (that don't expire) that are much shorter and more varied that give you whatever currency to unlock whatever you want would likely be much more preferrable these days. That way you can choose which challenges you want to complete and what you want to unlock without having to do anything you don't want to. This is essentially what Gears 5 ended up as, which everybody seemed pretty content with. Sure the overall feeling of commitment to earning a specific thing would mostly be gone, but the average player really doesn't care about that at all anymore. But no one really ever wanted to grind out thousands of matches of a mode they don't care for, chances are they'd just idle them anyways which isn't even playing the game, for a single skin.

Public_Enemyy

Especially with how many potential skins and whatnot that could end up in the game, some of the later ones would have crazy stupid requirements. Yea the requirements for a lot of the onyx medals were insane and would cause some outrage today. Unless their grind to completion was reduced by 90%, players will get discouraged and leave as Gears is hard for the average player. MCC does rotating challenges well(seasonal, weekly, and daily) with most of the unlocks being tied to seasonal and if the current Gears 5 system is used at launch, then we might have the best Gears launch since UE in 2015. The average player will beat the campaigns, play a couple PvP matches, maybe some horde/beast, and move on. This is an ambitious collection for fans of the series and will be the last versions of the original Gears trilogy we'll ever get until possibly the last Gears game. And I'm pretty sure most people's favorite Gears game were made by Epic so nostalgia will play a big role in whether or not people will care about grinding for unlockables.

s2k3v

What’s the name of the event this is rumored to be revealed at?

Flimsy-Bed-7944

Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 - June 12th 10am PT

s2k3v

Thanks!

Puzzleheaded_Fish_78

I can't fathom why they wouldn't do it. It's such a win for everyone involved. Especially keeping the passion up for Gears 6. I want this really bad. I've played through each Gears game at least twice. I've played through Gears 1 at least 4 times. I just finished another Gears 1 playthrough a few months ago. I was on my way to play through Gears 2 again, but now I'm waiting and hoping for this.

spartanb301

They would remaster 2 & 3. Gears 1 would get a series x official patch. Not so much to add.

That-Hipster-Gal

You know what would be nice? The ability to have the skin you select be usable in every Gears.

srylain

Just so they don't have to have 3-4 different versions of each skin, which would cost extra developer effort of managing all of that, some sort of standardization will need to happen. Whether that's by only having one game's multiplayer (Gears 3) and bringing all of the content into it, or remastering each game to the point where everything is interchangeable will remain to be seen.

[deleted]

i just hope they don’t touch the balance i’m sick of coalition ruining everything and i wanna remember gears3 like it was. with a fucking sawed off

cozy_lolo

I’d love for them to touch up the graphics of each game *whilst preserving the aesthetic of the various games*. I don’t want Gears 1 to look like Gears 5, for example; I want that dark, gritty feeling to persist. Other than that, I’d be happy to see these games’ multiplayers populated again. I’d play the shit out of this game.

Death1323

I'd be happy if they simply just used the gears Ultimate engine to remake 2 and 3. If they lazily just lump all the 4k remastered together with a single server browser I'll pass.

ktsmith91

My wishlist: - Gears 1-3 + Judgment - 4K/120fps and HDR for each game - Collection is also released on PC - Ironman difficulty added to each campaign - Multiplayer server browser - Horde/Beast server browser - Matchmaking uses multiple playlist queuing and lets you enable/disable whatever games you want (think Match Composer in Halo MCC) - Gears 1 UE is used for matchmaking but OG Gears 1 is still available for private games and server browser - Gears 1 UE gets Horde mode - Map veto (not voting) for matchmaking - Ribbons are added to Gears 2 multiplayer - Medals from Gears 3 now are attainable (where applicable) in all the Gears games - Player rank is the same across all the games - Character and weapon skin unlocks are tied to levelling up - No microtransactions - Huge achievement list and a brand new Seriously that spans all the games
