That’s just people, man. I get lowball offers all the time and I counter with something reasonable and they decline. I don’t want those people as customers. They are problems.

WavesOfEchoes

I had someone lowball in $10 increments that weren’t even in the ballpark, so I declined without counter. After the 3rd time I countered higher than my original asking price.

MoashWasRight

LoL. I’ve done the same.

Evil_Knavel

I don't even counter lowball offers. Straight decline. I often get messages back simply saying "counter?" and I'll reply "This hasn't been listed for long, I'm not in any huge hurry to sell. Lowest I'll sell for now is £X, if it's still unsold in six months I might adjust the listing price".

Kind-Lavishness7122

I take all of those cases as good fortune. You want to avoid those kind of buyers

Ponsky

TBH that's what I was thinking...

bangoskank_awaits

Maybe they bought it somewhere else? I wouldn’t take it personally.

Ponsky

Not on Reverb though, as you can see the history of each product... And it's not about taking it personally, is that I only get these kind of offers, which I did not get before, pedal I'd say it's quite niche and rare, not in production anymore

gimmiesopor

Even so, there's usually there's something else out there that scratches the same itch.

Loose-Recover-9142

My theory about reverb customers is that they are the guy who gets kicked out of his local guitar shop and can never be allowed back in. That's who you're dealing with.

Ponsky

Ouch !

gimmiesopor

As a buyer, whenever I get an offer rejection on Reverb I usually already have a similar product listing in mind (if not several). So let's say you reject my offer. I then immediately buy the same thing from someone else. Two days go by and now you want to make a deal is two days too late. No ego about it.

Ponsky

The pedal I have listed is by far the cheapest worldwide, so basically it's the only one accessible they'd have to pay almost $50-80 for the next best offer

gimmiesopor

I certainly can't explain what's going on with whoever made you that offer. I can only share my experience. So who knows? Me personally, I have an excel spreadsheet of microphones I own (collect) and mics that I want. I'm always trolling for a fair deal on these 30-40 different studio mics. Sometimes I have extra money and haven't purchased in a while and will allow myself a treat. Maybe I'll make an offer on a rare vintage mic and get rejected but also have my eye on a couple different others. After my offer is not accepted, I'm moving along.

maxii1233

Happen to be in the market for a Sony c-57?

gimmiesopor

>Sony c-57 While not on my list, that certainly is something I would love to check out. However, I've capped myself off at $1k (which those are worth way more). I just bought a Sennheiser MD 441 AND a new alternator for my car. It'll be a minute before my next purchase. Cool mic though, I'm sure you won't have a problem finding it a good home.

Yeah, people on Reverb have always been cretins, but it has been really terrible lately. The sense of entitlement some (specifically older men) have is incredible. They want me to give them extra pictures, measurements, videos, make me do 15-20 minutes of extra work getting all the materials then submit at offer at like 55% off. Honestly, Reverb's quality control has been off. I am getting a lot of scam messages ans offers these days and I never had a single one before about a year ago. Seems like customers are taking advantage. It is eBay circa 2012 all over again.

billodo

How about buyers who want to return and refund because the pedal “wasn’t their cup of tea”. Hello! Have you heard of research?

errornosignal

I nearly always sell "as-described" for that very reason.

billodo

I did that, yes. But the buyer begged me and agreed to him shipping it back to me and pay a restocking fee. He learned his lesson. I quickly resold it at a higher price :)

errornosignal

Sounds like a real p.i.t.a., but you're richer in the end, so I guess it worked out lol

[deleted]

In my experience, that kind of thing is to be expected. Unfortunately. In the thousands of transactions I've made via Reverb, eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc., I've came across this "scorned lover" crap more times than I'd care to share. Stubborn people would rather not sell something they REALLY want to sell, or not buy something that they REALLY need, if they can walk away from it "in control".

Ponsky

I think you nailed it so well especially with the ending "in control"

easybakeevan

I posted something recently and all I got was bots that were (I am assuming) scammers...
