I think the “Aloha Spirit” would be doing the right thing for your fellow community members and getting the vaccination

Mangguo_qiaokeli

Historically, it would also be the right thing for leadership to enforce. The Aliʻi were firm in their responses to epidemics/disease/threats to public health, such as Small pox, measles, and infant and mother mortality (just to name a few). Ships were quarantined, outbreaks were confined to certain areas, hospitals were established as public health measures. These things weren't just for native hawaiians. The manaʻo of leadership at the time was that anyone residing in the Kingdom of Hawai'i was a citizen deserving care (and with responsibilities). One hospital was even established to treat Japanese immigrants. But the population had faith in their leadership, held a concept of kuleana, and were educated (with over 90% literacy rate). Perhaps foreign influence is destined to be our downfall, as it has been in the past.

zippy251

🤙🏼

VegetableSupport3

I say the same shit to right wing conservative Christians who go on and on about no masks/vaccine because god wouldn’t want it. Who do these people think Jesus was? Guy would have been the first person to ask others to wear a mask and set the example. Spent his whole life being selfless and caring for the sick and modern Christian’s are so far from the teaching’s they claim to follow it’s unrecognizable.

TataYaga808

Exactly. They don't know the meaning or perspective behind aloha

Eric1600

>doing the right think Haha you nailed it. They don't think right. Edit: you should have left the typo

blasianalchemist

Being annoying will definitely get people to your cause.

MyPasswordIsMyCat

I voted for Trump because a bunch of trucks with MAGA flags slowed down everyone else on the highway, and it was super impressive when they stopped to honk loudly at any Biden signs they found. I really wanted the country to continue to be run by people with the mental and emotional capacity of a toddler. /s

Syenite

The cheers from the ladies in the crowd hurts my soul. I can hear my buddies wife in their voices. She never cared for politics until 2016, and now I don't even recognize her. Off the deep end.

FixForb

ugh so true. Happened to one of my mom's friends. Never cared about politics until Trump and now she's full on brain worms. Brain worms is the only way to describe it because it's like her whole personality changed.

thelastevergreen

It seems we've all always underestimated how deeply some of these people disliked Hillary Clinton. Whats ironic is that Clinton, regardless of her past or her husband's infidelity or any of her character flaws, was at least capable of performing the duties of the office of the president. But no... lets elect a reality TV persona with 0 political experience known for being a creeper, a conman, and an all-around lazy asshole. That makes so much more sense. I've always wanted a president who spent most of his day watching TV for coverage about himself and ranting on Twitter. /s

FixForb

Truly. Honestly I never heard so much misogyny from other women until she was running for President. So many women telling me that they didn't like her cuz of her "vibes" or w/e or because they thought she was a bitch. Okay....so you're gonna turn around and vote for TRUMP?!? Truly boggles the mind.

MyFiteSong

> Okay....so you're gonna turn around and vote for TRUMP?!? Truly boggles the mind. Misogynists voting for the king misogynist is the opposite of mind boggling.

thelastevergreen

I have a suspicion that it all stems from the fact that she defended Bill even though it was pretty apparent that he was having an affair. For some reason, that made a BUNCH of these ladies really dislike her. Honestly....I never cared. Its no business of mine if the President cheats on his wife. Thats for them to figure out. But yeah, for them to be so pissy about then to then turn around and vote for a man that has had 3 wives and cheated on each of them with the next wife (and then on Melania with a porn star)...is insane.

Der_Latka

But he gets a free pass. I really hoped he’d be done for with the whole “grab ‘em by the pussy” nonsense, but no - a sizable percentage of my fellow Americans decided he was just what they needed. …and they STILL stand by him. Talk about a cult!

midnightrambler956

All of Trump's philandering just shows how manly he is! Women can't resist him! /s

MyPasswordIsMyCat

I have an aunt who listened to Rush Limbaugh during the 1990s and despises the Clintons. After the Lewinsky affair and before the 2000 election, she and mom would argue about George Bush and my aunt's conclusion was "at least Bush didn't cheat on his wife." My aunt had gone through a nasty divorce at that point with her unfaithful ex-husband, but it was still silly given Bush was running against Gore, not Bill Clinton. Fast forward 16 years, and magically she doesn't care about Trump's infidelity, but thinks that the Clintons are demons or whatever. She's full MAGA and won't get the vaccine. She's pushing 80 these days and has a history of strokes, so I'm just waiting for the call I get from my parents that she's died of covid.

mellofello808

I hated her because she was trying to use nepotism to become the president of the united states. No matter what your political leanings, it was slimy that she thought it was her "turn", despite being a terrible politician who did nothing to win over people. I'm sure other people had their own reasons though.

epistemic_zoop

The right spent 25 years demonizing Hillary Clinton. Books, articles, "documentaries", rumors being spewed out regularly for a quarter of a century. It worked. I mean, I'm a leftist, of course I don't care for a moderate Democrat who was all too eager to support the banks and declare small wars. All too often, though, I would be the only person in a discussion defending her from all these vague, misleading, and flat-out insane criticisms.

[deleted]

I have nothing but contempt for the Clintons politics but would find myself in these weird positions of explaining that no I don't think they murdered people or are running a sex trafficking ring out of a pizza place, and she's obviously not as bad as the racist orange conman.

MyFiteSong

> It seems we've all always underestimated how deeply some of these people disliked Hillary Clinton. Feminists tried to tell you for the last 80 years just how much Americans hate women... *on both sides of the aisle*

thelastevergreen

What they failed to mention is that a lot of the people that hate women.... were women.

MyFiteSong

No, that was a failure of listening on your part. It was feminists who coined the terms "internalized misogyny" and "patriarchal bargain".

rabidsnowflake

You forgot your double order of impeachment and a side of insurrection.

sosuperjam

Try ivermectin /s

honuworld

Her personality didn't change. She was always like that but kept it hidden. Trump gave the racists and bigots the courage to declare themselves openly.

Eric1600

You're lucky in some ways. I have family that has been trying to reach the bottom of the deep end their whole lives.

honuworld

I'm afraid there is no bottom...

MyFiteSong

She just kept her beliefs to herself until the day she perceived she was in some sort of majority. Now you know what she's been thinking all along.

[deleted]

I almost thought you were a trump supporter for a moment 🤣 I didn’t realize /s means sarcasm. Call me a noob for that

Kit_Pellows_Fanclub

While you were inconvenienced oh, I'm sure the fact that they were owning the libs more than made up for it!

9758642652equities

You seem confused. Democrat voters are the ones who love blocking traffic. Doesn't matter if it's an ambulance either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IfyI69IQSg

zippy251

Ah yes, the time tested strategy.

FalstaffsMind

How are we supposed to respond to this "protest"? get unvaccinated? The insurance companies will eventually double the cost of their coverage. ICUs aren't cheap.

Der_Latka

I spent a good 45 seconds on their website. The first thing they whine about is a lack of media coverage of their “protests.” 🙄

olagon

Some Reddit amazing connections. I shared this comment last time these protestors were featured: Saw this couple holding a get vaccinated sign today at the rally http://imgur.com/a/KwNr4Y3. Turns out the daughter of this couple saw the comment on Reddit and shared it with her parents. She recognized them. Because I don't hide my name on Reddit, the couple recognized that they knew me and reached out to thank me. I had no idea it was them. They are an amazing couple and we are a better place because they have chosen Hawaii to be their home.

TheOfficialPyrodude

Small world haha

randomqhacker

Idiots don't realize that if the unvaccinated were not overflowing the hospitals right now, there wouldn't be the need for any restrictions. They are literally protesting a problem they created.

snsdfan00

I'm convinced these are the same guys who voted for & protested for Trump as well. A vocal minority of the population of Hawaii. Just like Jan 6th, they can protest all they want, it won't change how the majority feels about the causes they support.

[deleted]

Yup. And I believe most of them moved here from the mainland *because* it’s safer here, and now they have the nerve to protest the very laws that have made us safer. I have a new neighbor who did just that. Went over to be neighborly, they’d just moved from CA, and there was a book on their coffee table entitled “How to Talk to Liberals about how they’re Wrong”.

Plantsandanger

My condolences. Why can’t those idiots move to florida instead of fucking up hawaii?

tobascodagama

Because they already fucked Florida up so badly that they don't want to live there.

Plantsandanger

But at least they can be with their own kind in Florida!

Stickasylum

Nebraska, please. There's still faint hope for tipping Florida.

Plantsandanger

I fear Florida will tip its limestone ass into the sea before it tips blue. Or rather, the Republican Party will continue to insert spoilers into the race until Americas dick disintegrates into the ocean.

Stickasylum

Well, when you think about it, that’s kind of tipping blue!

MDXHawaii

There’s definitely a strong chunk of them who are born and raised out here too. I’ve seen all of their protests in Waikiki so far and it’s got lots of locals as well.

Kit_Pellows_Fanclub

Welcome to Ewa! Our pockets of jackass right-wingers are numerous and covered in Raiders paraphernalia.

Der_Latka

This made me snort-laugh. Fuckin’ Faders! (Go Chiefs! It is a glorious time to be a Chiefs fan.) But seriously - how come Ewa / Waianae get so many conservatives? You’d think with what the fucking white businessmen did to Hawai'i that they’d remember history and *not* support the very people that subjugated them and tore apart their very existence? I’ve tried to think about this several times, and all it does is make my head hurt. You’d think they would want a vaccine that would HELP keep the native Hawaiian population alive!

Kit_Pellows_Fanclub

I assume its the same reason Trump resonates with some hispanic voters: there is a growing alpha/bombastic male culture that the right-wing attitude of "fuck off libs! Hurt feelings! Dont tell me what do do, sheep! BUT LISTEN TO THE COPS, ANTIFA!" really clicks with. There is also the religous side of it...not sure how that plays out here.

honuworld

The majority of locals I saw at protests were the type of people that enjoy being obnoxious. They drive big trucks with oversized tires, going slow in the fast lane, blasting incomprehensible bass "music", just waiting for someone to say something so they can pick a fight. I don't think they really care about politics, they just want an opportunity to get in someone's face.

MDXHawaii

Had one guy on pohakupuna right by my house who rocks the Maga flag.

thelastevergreen

The insane man who lives across the street from my mom has a bunch of those yellow snake flags. He's also likely going to jail for ramming a young 20 something dude with his truck because the kid told him to fuck off since he was harassing their family gathering or something. It seems to me that crowd has a type.

Der_Latka

The Gadsden flag “Don’t Tread on Me.” It comes from 1775, and the Continental Marines (Semper Fi, former Marine here) used it as a motto. Those fucking nit-wits stole a perfectly good flag design and now it’ll forever be associated with their colossally brainpower-limited movement. Hopefully the younger guy is ok!

thelastevergreen

If I recall correctly he went to the hospital that day but was released. Still I hope they sue his ass.

Der_Latka

Yeah - I’m no cop or lawyer, but I’m pretty sure that was attempted murder. Hopefully that dumbass goes to jail for quite a while as a result of his attempt to take a life.

DONTLOOKITMEIMNAKED

im more upset that they ruined the color red. I would like to wear a red hat but I don't want to be mistaken for an evil piece of shit idiot.

AuronFtw

My favorite hat that came out of that was a red one with the same white lettering as maga hat but it says "made you look, black lives matter" instead

[deleted]

I have a Gadsden flag that I got from my high school US history teacher when he was retiring and giving away various memorabilia he had in his classroom. I always thought it was the coolest flag and had it hanging up until these Neo Nazis started using it. Ugh.

DONTLOOKITMEIMNAKED

Yes, and that type rhymes with Zignorant Zasshole.

thelastevergreen

>here was a book on their coffee table entitled “How to Talk to Liberals about how they’re Wrong”. At that point I'd fucking take back my neighborly Jello mold and leave....and consider building a wall between my property and their's....since they love walls so much.

honuworld

Chances are they never read the book, as most of them can't/don't like to read. Except for the tv guide.

thelastevergreen

That's exactly the issue I have with it. I can guarantee that that book isn't there because it's one of their favorites. It's there to provoke people who come over to visit and to virtue signal. And that is a petty childish thing to do.

Momela85

That makes me sad and mad. We’re from CA, our dream is to live in Hawaii. I’m always so surprised when I meet people here that are not liberal, and in most cases that means they have zero compassion for anyone beyond their small world. So sorry you have to deal with our trash.

thelastevergreen

In my experience there are 3 common types of right wingers here. The completely hopeless Trump types who've bought into every crazy lie these past 6 years. The edgy 20-30 something dudes that grew up on the 4chan sector of the Internet who think they're "Libertarian" because they listen to a bunch of Joe Rogan and that makes them sooo much smarter than everyone else. And the 80 something year olds that are just Republicans because they've been Republicans since Eisenhower was President and its just part of who they are now....so they shake their heads in disappointment at everything the Trump crowd does...and then they go to the ballots and vote R straight down the line anyway. In their mind, they're loyal to the party, even if the party they knew has drastically changed, because its just how they've always done it.

Der_Latka

“The edgy 20-30 something dudes…” holy crap that paragraph made me laugh! Joe Rogan should have stuck to making people eat bugs. He’s a fucking ass clown. All about wackadoolde conspiracies and DMT? Whatever the fuck he’s always on about smoking - anyway, ‘ole Joe was all about the crazy theories until COVID happened to him, and then he got all the sweet, sweet science they would shove in his body. 🙄 I’m convinced that “Libertarians” are just Republicans that smoke weed and don’t hate black people.

thelastevergreen

> I’m convinced that “Libertarians” are just Republicans that smoke weed and don’t hate black people. I think its just "Republicans that aren't die hard religious zealots." All the freedom to be an asshole... but none of the judgement from God. XD

Der_Latka

Lol! Good point. I mean, I’m all for freedom and whatnot, but I don’t want to have to negotiate the fee for the Fire Department responding while my fucking house is on fire.

cupcakejo87

Man, I'm from CA and while I'm happy to see the back of those people, I'm bummed for all the places they land. (except Texas. And Florida.)

Mack812

There were definitely some Trumpists and Blue Lives Matter flags at their protest. I guarantee that within two weeks a good number of them will be in the hospital taking up valuable medical resources. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤬

Der_Latka

The whole “Blue Lives Matter” bullshit and display of a desecrated flag - first off, you’re not supposed to alter the design of the flag of the United States. Fly it upside down if you really want to, but this stupid fucking blue stripe “dark” flag. C’mon, man. Then, people in Law Enforcement *chose* their career knowing full well it could be dangerous. People of color didn’t get a chance to say, “Hmm. I think I’ll be this skin type or that.” People of color are the ones being killed every. Single. Day. By law enforcement around the country. THEY are the ones in danger. I’m a former Military Policeman, and even in that sterilized military bubble I saw abuse of power. I thought I wanted to be a cop when I got out. Thank god I ran into a chief that just didn’t like me off the bat and “failed” me. I was crushed at the time but it was probably the best thing to happen to me in my life. The majority of the guys I know that went LE have the “us vs them” mentality and hate humanity. Sounds like a fun way to live life. (Sigh) Sorry. I feel better now.

honuworld

Law enforcement is a cult. They consider themselves and their own lives to be VASTLY more important than every one else. Their only friends are other cops. They lie as easily as they breathe with no remorse. And they absolutely hate *any* oversight or scrutiny. The cops in Minnesota resigned en masse when they were told they could no longer kill black people at will.

> At the end of the day, people are just sick of lockdown and looking for any excuse to call it over. What really makes me sad is seeing how it's driving everyone crazy, but alas... Ironically, if they would just shut up, get vaccinated, and follow the rules for a little while, we'd be done with this already.

Michael_Pistono

What a slap in the face to everyone working in the hospital to keep their idiot anti-vax friends alive.

Cyberflection

My patience with these Y'all Qaeda spreadnecks ran out weeks ago. In some states they are protesting and harassing hospitals and vaccine clinic staff. ...and filling up entire ICU wards once they get COVID and come crawling to the hospital begging for help from modern medicine.

Incaseofaburglar

Every Saturday on the Big Island we have a stop the mandate protest in one of our roundabouts. Actually, I think it's about to start right now! Last week there was a toddler running around poking people with a giant fake syringe. So dumb. So dumb. Then the protestors had the audacity to leave their tyranny and anti-vax protest signs behind creating litter in a public garden. I respect the right to protest, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

surfANDmusic

Was this at the shopping center where the Walmart is?

randomqhacker

Those guys are real nutjobs. They don't even believe "viruses" are real, and think "Covid is cleansing".

lunedeprintemps

Buncha idiots.

chfuji

Well, guess the numbers are going to spike again. Can’t wait to see more assorted posts and news stories with a bunch of these folks regretting not getting vaccinated after it’s way too late.

tacosteve100

odds are the protests won’t be as large in about 10-14 days.

zippy251

Yep

4twentyblazeitman

It like some of these locals never got taught Hawaiian history...The damn measles outbreak of 1848, was a long ways ago, but that's what I compare covid to. I guess it scares the shit out of me that we could have a modern day (enter sickness) anytime, but IMO covid is the closest to such an event. We have better technology to fight/treat diseases nowadays, but people wanna "trust their immune system". I get the logic, but wouldn't you agree that if taking a vaccine means I will have a slight edge against covid, why not do it?

thelastevergreen

The thing I keep seeing them say is "Well you know, the antibodies you get from having had covid are far more effective against Delta than the vaccine." And I'm like... yeah even if that was true... first you'd have to survive having fucking Covid! They seem to think the right choice is that everyone should just roll the dice and the weak will die out and the strong will survive. They're so stupid.

Hubert_J_Cumberdale

These videos remind me SO MUCH of pre-sentencing statements: Like criminals who stand before a judge claiming they're "sorry" for their crimes when in truth, they're actually only sorry they got caught. These "I should have gotten the vaccine" confessionals are people tho thought they were **above** COVID -- that COVID was only for the poor, weak, elderly, unhealthy, unclean - people who wouldn't put their faith in Jesus. You know... Liberals. And now they want us to feel sorry for them. ...And give them money for their astronomical medical expenses. To quote Tim Wise: *Indifference to others is why they routinely violated social distancing requirements in stores, getting in people’s faces, coughing on them, yelling at them, just for being asked to wear a mask in keeping with a retailer’s policy or state or local mandate.* *Because although they weren’t concerned about getting COVID themselves, they ultimately didn’t care if you did.* *That’s what these ICU confessions signify — Now that it’s caught up with them, the tears flow, and the panic sets in their faces as they wonder what they’ve done to themselves. Because they never wanted to die, they just didn’t care if other people did.* The dumbest part about it is these weepy "public service" videos is they do nothing to move the needle for anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers and assorted conspiracy deniers. Those people are still deeply convinced the message is NOT for them. It's not a death cult - they're not suicidal. They just don't care if **other** people die. They're homicidal.

thelastevergreen

Yeah unfortunately for them I've reached the "If you didn't vaccinate and you get sick...I don't care if you die." stage of the Pandemic. I spent all last year feeling bad for the sick. Now... they deserve it. Now the people I feel bad for are the kids who can't get it and have to suffer because of these assholes.

Der_Latka

I’ve tried on numerous occasions to lay out the science. The statistics. The human side of giving a shit about someone other than yourself. It doesn’t work. It really doesn’t. I’ve reached the “fuck them” stage. If they’re so anti-science, let’s deny them treatment - I mean, suddenly accepting science when it benefits THEM is hypocritical, right? Oh wait. I just outlined the basic tenant of the GOP.

DONTLOOKITMEIMNAKED

These people have always been easy to identify on the roads they are the ones that will risk half a dozen lives to save half a second on a morning commute.

SelarDorr

i hope and dont think that will be the case. hawaiis metrics have started trending in the right direction, and people behaving this way i think are in a significant enough minority that hopefully active cases continue to decrease.

bigcurvedbanana

The locals and Hawaiians I’ve met have no interest in getting the vax.

Past-Championship157

Shameful

zippy251

I agree

ignored_rice

Call them ANTIVA. That’ll mess with their stupid heads.

Eric1600

Brilliant

duder1no

They think vaccine mandates are fascism. Just call them antifa lol.

ignored_rice

Yeah, but I’m anti-fascist. I’d rather not be grouped with these assholes.

lindakoy

You're not required to have the vaccine. You just can't work for companies with over 100 workers (where you have a good chance of spreading a disease), or work in any job where you work with the public and can also spread the disease. You also can't eat in enclosed public spaces where you have a good chance of spreading disease because you don't have a mask on. Other than that you can do what you want. That's not fascism, that's public health. I personally think that they should go even further and not allow churches to be open to people who are not vaccinated, and not allow unvaccinated people to fly or take any kind of public transportation.

passionfruitmami

Definitely not going to Waikiki for a long time 😖

tacosteve100

chanting 🇺🇸 usa to bunch of other americans really speaks for itself.

Eric1600

It's the right wing mantra to help themselves avoid their mind from actually questioning the shit they are spewing.

honu1985

I hope I could join them holding a sign "My body, my choice. We support abortion!" They will be confused all of sudden.

[deleted]

But mah freeedumb! They were doing this shit in Pahoa yesterday. Pahoa, a town of like 500 (I know I’m exaggerating but really we are the ass end of nowhere). I firmly believe these are mostly people who moved here last year because we are safer, and NOW they’re complaining about our very rules that have kept us safe. I want to tell them all to go back home.

hotinhawaii

The abject ignorance of these protesters is astounding! One in Pahoa yesterday held a sign that said, “Don’t sacrifice your dna for any jab.” WTH? Who is sacrificing their DNA? The mRNA vaccines do not alter your DNA. They send a message to your cells to produce certain antibodies to fight the spike protein. The mRNA that is injected is all broken down within hours of injection. No sacrifice necessary.

Eric1600

Unfortunately these people are just useful idiots for conservative politicians. You'll note that all of their leaders are all vaccinated, even Trump, but that doesn't seem to mean anything to them. The granola crowd in pahoa has a few more issues in that they are just not thinking clearly and have fallen into the rhetoric from the right wing as well.

lindakoy

Ignorance of biology. A failing of our educational system in the U.S.

thelastevergreen

Yeah but since they don't understand how DNA works... or what MRNA even IS, they think its genetic manipulation and that we'll all become mutants. I call dibs on Gambit's powers btw.....or Quicksilver....or hell...Nightcrawler if I didn't have to be a blue devil man.

midnightrambler956

Pahoa is the center of the anti-GMO people too. ~~And something like 40% of people *nationwide* say they "don't want to eat food that has DNA in it."~~ Sorry, I misremembered it – 80% of people support labelling food that contains DNA. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/01/17/over-80-percent-of-americans-support-mandatory-labels-on-foods-containing-dna/

[deleted]

That reminds me…I was at Safeway in Hilo, looking at their clearance items. I was so excited to find a marked down tin foil lasagna pan, and there was an elderly woman next to me who heard me. She said oh don’t buy that, aluminum causes dementia, so I looked at her to say something, realized she wasn’t wearing a mask at all, not even below the chin, so I yelled “hello! this lady isn’t wearing a mask!” as I quickly moved away from her.

Eric1600

There was a study done a long time ago that showed a slight correlation between aluminum cookware and dementia (Alzheimer's actually). However even the authors said there was no direct link just something interesting and low correlation. But the media blew it up. It's been debunked for some time now.

midnightrambler956

That at least has some sort of basis, in a Telephone-game way. Back in the 90s they had found aluminum in the plaques of Alzheimer's patients. Of course you don't get it from aluminum cooking pans the way you pick up teflon, but it basically cratered the aluminum cookware market overnight.

lindakoy

OMG. That would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

DONTLOOKITMEIMNAKED

Those words are all dog whistles, I would bet the percentage of them that have any grasp on the concept of DNA at all is under 10% let alone being able to differentiate between DNA and RNA. They are all just repeating the memes they have been programmed with.

pantsonheaditor

i dont think the people who moved here for safety (besides your neighbor) are the ones out there protesting with big stupid signs against masks.

PilotG-2_94

Lived in leilani estates for 3 years (way before it got lit) and I bet your assumption is right. Loads of mainland people buy property out there to live in tents and when they can’t handle it they sell and move on. Year round there’s always new people coming and going.

Der_Latka

Can confirm. Tax-dodging, ultra right-wing, racist parents / family of a good friend of mine (who escaped the programming) bought a place in South Point.

[deleted]

You know what we big islanders say about South Point? It’s where the FBI sends its witness protection program people.

midnightrambler956

The guy who had the orange farm down there and claimed he was ruined when thieves made off with $4 million in oranges in one night stored his tax returns on one of his spammy websites and accidentally made them findable on Google. That was a fun read.

DONTLOOKITMEIMNAKED

Huh. I once saw a reddit post asking how to sell a million and a quarter of fresh oranges. Coincidence?

midnightrambler956

🧐

[deleted]

Do you have a link?

midnightrambler956

Not going to post it, it's probably long gone anyway. But the upshot is he claimed the loss – which was already dubious, since it would require someone harvesting several tons of oranges in one night and then somehow getting rid of them without anyone noticing – for something like 10 years, eliminating $200k worth of annual net income on the farm while claiming his personal income was under $25k.

[deleted]

Well, Hawaii oranges are dubious at best

midnightrambler956

Kau Gold oranges were actually incredibly good, probably the best I've ever had. Problem is they were impossible to peel, to the point that extracting the pulp from the rind in any way was nearly impossible. I can't help but wonder if there was something shady going on to cover for being unable to sell enough.

Der_Latka

(Sigh) sometimes it really seems like Hawai’i Island is the Wild West reincarnated. I have grown to love Hilo side though over the course of several visits to a buddy that lives down in HPP. Lol that place is a trip, too! Oh for finding “disappeared” stuff, check this out - [The Wayback Machine](http://web.archive.org)

midnightrambler956

I can't remember what it was anymore, this was about 10 years ago when I got interested because he had a role in [some bonkers drama over a road there](https://punaweb.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=7579). He had about 20 .info sites, stuff like kautourism.info, naalehutourism.info, and it was on one of those. I don't think the Wayback Machine would pick them up because they weren't linked from anywhere on the site; the Google crawler found the hidden documents by itself (and at the timet Google wasn't filled with so many garbage results as to be unusable, like it is now).

Rawscent

If they were locals, you’d know. I think they’re sending the same people around to other communities to look like they have widespread support and meanwhile spreading the virus with them.

Eric1600

I know locals involved in this bullshit.

surfANDmusic

Me too

InfiniteMaf

The issue is that no matter what these people will never change their minds. How many stories have you seen of people in the ICU with COVID that insist they don’t have it? People who are convinced the hospital purposely tampers with their tests to show covid positive? Only strong mandates and direct consequences will have any impact on these idiots. Losing their jobs can be the start.

siddie75

The purpose of the vaccine is to protect you from the deadly virus. That’s it. They have a problem with public health?

oneechankimochi

Right. People should educate themselves on Hawaii's history with deadly diseases.

FixForb

time to reopen Kalauapapa I guess :/

thelastevergreen

Thats not very fair to the people that still live there. XD

FixForb

you're right, they don't deserve that

midnightrambler956

There's only one or two left, we can put the covid people at Kalawao on the other side.

dram3

I couldn’t tell if this was a anti mask, anti vaccine or anti democracy protest. Also so surprised so many people were taking part in Hawaii! W the actual F.

10191AG

It was bad enough when it was pro-trump convoys every weekend. I loved living in Hawaii but we left around the same time the case numbers were just heading into double digits (other reasons, not covid), and everyone we know back there is hating it right now with these fucking idiots everywhere.

dram3

I’m on the big island, and aside from some meager trump supporters on the side of the road back in January, there has been nothing here.

10191AG

There were Trump convoys driving around Oahu almost every weekend leading up to the election.

maexx80

So much trash, damn

Paxx_Romana

At this point, I’m just going to channel Ivan Drago energy with these idiots: if they die, they die.

LBBEEYA

These people don't have jobs? Not much else to do but stand outside, yell, spread covid droplets, let the countdown being to more daily high counts, I like see

GuinansEyebrows

Chad Loder and a few other people on Twitter have done a pretty good job uncovering a lot of the folks on the mainland who attend school board meetings to protest mask mandates (among other right-wing events and protests) that are actually out-of-work models and actors. https://twitter.com/chadloder/status/1421931374567563264 It seems kinda conspiracy-minded and I'm not sure if anyone has been able to figure out who these people are getting their marching orders from but if it's true... well, it's not like the GOP doesn't utilize projection as their primary political tactic so it wouldn't surprise me.

LBBEEYA

Interesting! Kinda strange to see so many 'protestors' out no matter what time of day and so many people acting the fool in public. Time to start asking 'where u stay' kine questions. Maybe it's the same for all the aggro behavior on planes and doing it to go fake viral? Lol.... Thanks for the info, I'll check it out!

nickjustice

The ocean is so close just keep walking till you get to Texas, Hawaii doesn’t need your bullshit.

keithjp123

Thanks for extending all the restrictions a**holes.

I'm pretty sure most of them are probably from California

mugzhawaii

Based on the absolute butchering of our language in your profile, I’d assume you are too.

zippy251

I'm from Colorado and Wisconsin originally Edit: I fixed my profile. Thanks for letting me know.

miicanchan

Time to get the eggs out again, gran

thelastevergreen

A parade of people gearing up to loose their jobs.

thelastevergreen

Why was one of the clips a lady and then a plate of...cheese and grapes?

zippy251

My phone didn't let me edit it out

thelastevergreen

XD Anti-vaxx protest -> anti-vax protest -> anti-vax protest -> sensual moment with hors d'oeuvres platter and a crackling fireplace -> anti-vax protest. Things got unexpected intimate there for a second. LOL

LasagnaSniffer94

Mfs have too much free time

LordMama808

And then locals say that the rise in cases are because of tourists but then hold massive protests against the vaccine, smh.

cokedopedrip

Why is Morty's severed head spinning in the video

zippy251

No clue

randomqhacker

It's just a Morty, why not? Can always *urrrrp* get another one!

JimmyHavok

Plague rats protesting being denied victims. Spreading disease is a human right.

MaiGahd

Oh man this is triggering

senorglory

Infuriating.

Infamous_Tonight5717

More division: Division of Race's. Division of religion. Division of gender Division of political affiliation Division State v State Division of Vax vs Unvax Division of the People Division of the Family... US is to tearing itself Apart from inside to out. Only to burn itself down. Enemy manipulators watch intently, rubbing hands together with a grin. So much hatred, it's become normalized.

beautifullyabsurd123

Sooooo shame

Reddit-to-Bleddit

I’m in Waimea bay with ice cold Corona in hand.

Apollosfury

Oh so its USA now? Not the stolen lands of the Kingdom? Funny how that works…

i_hate_cars_fuck_you

LOL theres a guy in a Hokage cape at 1:45

sooksookmanook

Dude I’m pro vax, but these people have a right to protest whether or not we agree with their cause. Let go of your pearls and relax

randomqhacker

They're free to protest, but we're free to criticize their poor logic, and point out how dumb it is to gather that many people without masks.

mugzhawaii

Exactly. Too much California attitude around here.

mauionions

For reals! What ever happen to just minding your own buisness nowadays

angrytroll123

This is reddit. People complain about anything here. I think this is appropriate.

senorglory

Outside agitators.

Misreads-Post

My wife and I passed by this last night and had to duck into Macy’s to avoid the initial march. It’s only going to get worse next week when the new safety standards begin.

I2h4d

covid atv spotted!

lavagal

Did the police assist them? Did they have a permit? Are parades back?

zippy251

I think the police were keeping people off the road mainly.
