Scranton Strangler Strikes Again

Scranton Strangler Strikes Again

JeffreyAScott

It's not Toby. It's never the person you most suspect. It's also never the person you least suspect. Therefore, I know the Scranton Strangler is Phyllis, the person I most medium suspect.

[deleted]

What about the guy who owns Vance Refrigeration? What was his name again?

why_renaissance

You have a lot to learn about this town, sweetie.

Zentine

Haha my wife and I constantly say this to each other.

ConfidenceInRain

I love how she says this, it’s now how I say it. I’m not American, is this an accent thing? I tried asking an American I know but she just seemed confused by the question

[deleted]

Also not American but I think it’s just her accent.

kevinsfamouschilipot

I am wheezing at this

WatchinLikeTV

What line of work you in Bob?

Micheal--G-Scott

Boy have you lost your mind? Cause I'll help you find it

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

I loved Ryan in this moment.

goldennotebook

I've been dipping back in and watching shows in order and I find myself appreciating Ryan so much more. Of course I can't think of a specific moment other than this one, but I was mulling that yesterday when I watched the episode where he uses a fancy office for his interview and talks about being a 'wunderkind'. I wonder if it has to do with how much I've grown to like BJ Novak as a writer?

Pres-Bill-Clinton

So what do you do?

No_Display588

Bob

yourrable

> Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration You have a lot to learn about this town, ^resp Sweetie.

StaleSerial

I think we can all agree it's either Gabe or Angela. [Flips coin] It's Angela. Get her, boys.

Fuzzy-Function-3212

Hiya pumpkin, we're gonna ditch this bitch. You in?

boysinbikinis

Pumpkin's out, let's go gang!

LifeDraining

Low key one of my favourite lines.

predpilot85

Fun fact if you don't listen to Office Ladies podcast, Creed actually calls Angela this in real life because of this line from the show.

Zelestialronin

You mean Andrea? The office bitch?

LifeDraining

No way. Which episode?

[deleted]

LifeDraining

Thanks!

flyguydip

Didn't creed show up to a Halloween party covered in real blood though?

Jaspers47

We don't even know what species blood that was. He could have taken a walking tour of the Scranton Abattoir before work.

flyguydip

That's not a detail I can casually dismiss like that when all of the other theories are like "it's toby because he's creepy." Its the only piece of hard evidence in the whole show.

goodintrovert

But I want cookie

chaz9111

“By now you probably realize that Beatrix bourbon was the killer...” Phyllis: “Michael I was doing so well :((((“

drlsoccer08

There was a deleted scene where she admitted to having killed a guy.

Dishonest_Abe_

It couldn't be because there is an episode where the police are chasing the strangler and she's with the others looking out the window watching it. Actually I seem to remember him being caught but I could be wrong.

MachineGreene98

That's just what a criminal mastermind would want you to think

CarPeriscope

*George Howard Skub was an inside job. Look into it!*

puppup34

I thought it was Creed until two things, one the thing where a writer (Or someone I don't remember who) said he never had the strength to kill his victims(Creed is definitely a killer), and then The Office Youtube posted a video called "Makings of a strangler" or something and it's all about the Scranton Strangler and clips of Toby. To be fair, Toby was convinced the guy caught was the wrong one, and Creed said they got the wrong guy, so the guy caught probably wasn't the strangler, so he could be there and be the strangler.

DarrenGrey

You think that was the real strangler?

soepie7

There are two Scranton Stranglers working together so they always have an alibi.

DOG_BUTTHOLE

No, it was Gabe. Perfectly medium.

HASuffererHelp

Well to be fair to the new guy, it does sound like something Michael would say.

Poseidons_Champion

You have a lot to learn about this town, sweetie.

washington_breadstix

It's a direct quote from Dwight.

alabamadarrenj

Thank you Scranton Strangler. I love you! You just took one more person's breath away.

PippityPoppity_

I was just saying this line to myself earlier at work as I swept !!!!

raktoe

I love the ones that include the car looking like a car parked in the parking lot which could have been Toby’s. Considering they caught the man driving that car, I really don’t see how that supports the theory that it was actually Toby.

Jaymz95

I always like the theory that Toby went into jail to talk shit to the guy about him taking the fall for Toby's crime, and him snapping and attacking Toby. I don't really subscribe to it, but it's fun to think about.

Bobfish64

I like to think that Toby choked himself to make George Howard Skub look even more guilty. After all, it was Toby’s hand around his own throat.

Jaymz95

Even deeper: the doc crew cut it specifically that way to preserve Toby's identity I didn't know that was his hand lmfao that's fantastic

Bobfish64

I also like the detail in that the strangler attacks didn’t start (or at least weren’t heard of) until after Toby came back from Costa Rica. And that’s where he, you guessed it, broke his neck. Possibly where he gets the idea to strangle? I don’t know, it’s small details like that which makes it interesting. But it’s all theory.

Jaymz95

Yes, definitely. Again, I don't think this is accurate, but it's a fan theory that just keeps giving. I have never heard that specific piece of evidence, and boy is it compelling. I read a few days ago that Toby's accident could have been a failed suicide attempt, which kinda builds onto what you're saying about him having snapped after Costa Rica. I'm actually showing my girl the show for the first time ever. She definitely doesn't love it the way I do, but she's only in season 2. They've only made her cry a little bit so far. This watch I'm kinda hyper focused on how Toby's life is literal dog shit to the degree that he doesn't want "ex" added to his ex wife's name on his emergency contact form. He's constantly destroyed by words and sent away from all human interaction (besides Kelly, but... That's not helping anyone). It's pretty sad, and makes a good case for him being the strangler.

Bobfish64

exactly! it’s just fun dissecting details to fit the narrative of a different story even though it’s not the intended narrative. another example would be Michael literally calls him “the silent killer” in season 5 when Toby says radon and asbestos are the silent killers, and Toby replies with “you’ll see” lmao. of course he’s most likely saying that because the radon and asbestos will catch up with everyone, but it’s funny thinking he could be saying that because Toby really is a silent killer and that was a threat of violence rather a warning.

Jaymz95

My god, it just keeps going lmfao. I'm glad they've never offered a true explanation on this. I always thought the golden light in the end of pulp fiction was Elvis's gold suit, then Quentin put the kibosh on that. It's like "what the hell man, let me dream!" People are hoping Jenna addresses it in her podcast, I hope they leave it ambiguous forever.

puppup34

I think he says he realized then how fragile the neck is (I could be wrong tho)

Jared_33

The writers on this show were brilliant. You don’t think they might’ve left subtle clues or wrote the show in a way that made fans speculate? I think there’s an answer, and only Craig Daniels & Co. knows. Jenna and Angela’s podcast has got to address it when it comes up. I think that’s the best chance we have at a definitive answer.

Jaymz95

It's like the end to Pulp Fiction, it's for you to decide!

Jared_33

I respect that. There’s some things I like being left alone. Like the teapot note. Jenna was holding back tears talking about what it said, but she refused to read it. She said it was a note from John about how much it meant to work with her. But I don’t think we should ever get to know exactly what it said. Let it be a beautiful mystery. I have no problem with the Scranton strangler being in that group.

chcrash2

Just like what Bill Murray whispered into Scarlet Johansson’s ear at then end of Lost In Translation. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

Jared_33

Sounds like the Michael/Pam airport scene to me

Skweril

In this interview Paul lieberstein originally says the idea of Toby being the Scranton stranger was never talked about among the writers, but then plays into the mystery of "maybe it did" for the fun of the theory. But it sounds like the show was never really written with the subplot of Toby being the Scranton stranger at all. https://youtu.be/ORrqPCgYq3Q

Jared_33

It could be coincidence but I always think of the car and the fact that Toby was absent during the strangler chase. The logic of him being caught then coming back to the office precludes that. But the ramifications, like Toby being a juror and getting strangled by the strangler, become a little more fun if you buy into the theory. The writers are still amazing tho.

Kel-Mitchell

I like the theory that it's Andy.

nicholsanddhimes

I don’t think he would endanger his gift to Pam and Tuna’s baby like that. He had to put the updated newspaper about the Scranton Strangler Striking Again instead of the Spring has Sprung newspaper

Mdgt_Pope

Don’t you think he might’ve planned it to be the day after it but then she was born late?

Andrakisjl

Toby uses a pencil in one episode, we see the Scranton Strangler wrote something in pencil once too! Toby is SS confirmed! /s

VariousJelly

We need those Flendrson Files! ^Flenderson ^files...

Anuk_Su_Namun

😱

username0221

My biggest problem with the theory is that the guy chokes Toby when he visits him in jail. I feel like if most people were to attack someone, they would punch them, unless they were a strangler.

puppup34

Although the way Toby holds his neck afterwards is not a comforting way to hold a neck, I could be missing something about that though, it's possible Toby admitted it, it's also possible the guy in the prison was A strangler but not THE strangler, one final possibility is he could've done that to make it seem less like it was him if the guy in prison owed him or something.

mwmani

The cars do prove it though. If you watch Booze Cruise part one, right at the beginning you see Tobe exiting his car. It’s the exact same make and model that we see later in The Job (aka the beach trip episode) driven by one of the warehouse guys, I forget his name. This is important because in the paper that Andy frames for Cece, “The Scranton Strangler Strikes Again” article it says, “shove it up your butt!”

HASuffererHelp

God dammit

puffyarrow

Yeah it’s really stupid. Lots of people drive the same kind of car lol

OliveJuiceUTwo

George Howard Skub tried to strangle at least one person

DarrenGrey

The real strangler would have succeeded.

Netsforex_

Don't say that name. That's a Devil-name

blue_windmill1

*Creed

jys6612

I think Creed at least knows who the strangler is.

puppup34

He DOES say they got the wrong guy, but Creed is crazy and a murderer so... That doesn't say much.

TooStonedForAName

After all the last person to cross Creed did die. His name? Creed Bratton.

ShetlandJames

It's his friend, William Charles Schneider

BDady

I think creed is the zodiac killer. I mean he said himself, he used to make love outdoors in the 60s and it’s possible that some men slipped in, but there’d be no way of knowing.

Hexellent3r

“It’s Halloween…. That is…. Really good timing”

puppup34

Gabe: Oh, I didn't know everyone dressed up for Halloween Creed covered in blood: What's Halloween?

safireleo

It was Plop who said the first line

MurderDoneRight

Everyone knows Ernesto did it. That empanada making bastard had murder in his eyes I tell ya!

dangle321

Ernesto made it clear he doesn't want any trouble.

MurderDoneRight

Yes. So when trouble gets in his way, he _gets rid_ of the trouble.

tylerpressey

I actually have a theory I've been cooking for awhile about Michael using the office to launder money, it involves him hiring Kevin to cook the books, and Ryan to climb the ranks. And a key point would be his office showing profit while every other branch is failing and then the company ends up going bankrupt it's just a fun theory I started thinking about after watching it the millionth time.

absolriven

personally, i would shoot down Ryan and Michael having any involvement, although that is a fun theory. But the accounting team creating fake numbers is a well-known theory.

ScottyStellar

Ryan prob found it out doing his own scheme and was able to leverage the info to get the executive job

Janethemane

Doesn’t Kevin say at one point that’s what he does every day after he talks to the other guy about why he went to jail?

voluptate

Eh I think Kevin confused embezzlement/fraud with his own use of "Keleven" to get out of work on time.

txevo

It gets you home by 7

voluptate

Wasn't it Oscar who had to stay late and get home at 7? "Kevin left at 4:45 that day" or something was part of the punchline

Jaspers47

Season 3 Kevin had different methods than Season 9 Kevin

tylerpressey

This theory involves Michael intentionally acting stupid while being really smart, he screws over Jan and protects the company, he hangs out with Ryan in new York and you might argue that Ryan was high on drugs didn't remember he was being filmed and acted like his normal self around Michael instead of acting like the boss and giving Michael a tough time. This is just a fun theory that I've concocted because I literally watch every day, I don't think the writers were meaning for any of this it's just a different way of looking at the show and if you go in for a fresh watch with it in mind you might notice some things you didn't before.

MegaCrazyH

Now theories about Gabe being the Strangler, sign me up. Dude definitely gives me a serial attempted murder vibe.

Duckm00

Oh 100% they even mentioned in an interview that the Scranton Strangler never killed anyone and Gabe would be to weak to strangle someone to death

resilientenergy

Shut up about the weakness, shut UP about the weakness!!

Sketch3000

He strangles them with sound.

murppie

Came here for the Gabe theory. 100%

pleasenostop

I agree! I remember seeing a very detailed theory about him being the Scranton Strangler her awhile ago and it all makes sense and I can’t look at another theory the same way again

thenabi

Isnt he only very rarely in Scranton?

pleasenostop

That we know of... he’s rarely at the office, so that leaves a lot of time for “activities”.

Taco_Deity

You see how he eats toast? Dudes definitely a killer.

Tra1famador

He would even settle for apricot preserves, THE ANIMAL.

MisterTeacherSir

He looks like someone starved a virgin to death

schright_dwute

We all know it's Devon

Taco_Deity

We know why they call him Devon. It’s clearly a combination of the words “Devil” and “Demon” And Terrorist.

RollingHammer

Devon? I thought his name was Shadow or Garth

gorg234

I remember someone on this subreddit wrote a whole essay about how it was actually Andy… and they convinced me. Toby is too conflict averse to be the Scranton Strangler.

IcyRay9

Same. When you rewatch it thinking Andy is the Scranton Strangler it all sorta makes sense too.

iAmReginaPhalange

Where’s the post??

gorg234

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/DunderMifflin/comments/5mvak0/andy_bernard_has_disassociative_identity_disorder/ Here you go. Some of it is far fetched, but some points are incredibly convincing. I like the point that Toby was actually on vacation during two of the murders. It can’t be him.

RaikkonensHobby74

Holy shit, I am totally on board. As far as the "real" strangler having strangled Toby when he went to visit, I think it's very possible that the guy they got was a copycat killer who killed only 1 or 2 people, and they pinned all the rest of the Scranton Strangler murders on him.

m4tt1111

The Scranton strangler never killed anyone, I don’t remember where the creators said this, but they said that his signature move was strangling but never finishing the job.

RaikkonensHobby74

Huh. Well where's the fun in that?

chuckle_puss

Dwight, is that you?

poplunoir

How do we know for sure that this wasn't written by Toby to confuse us

wozblar

well that was a fun read, thanks. been a few years since i've watched it on repeat but this is making me want to watch it with fresh eyes

RoggiKnotBeardHD

This may point to the fact that Andy acapellagroup is a group of rapists. LUL WUT.

Brodogmillionaire1

Toby doesn't want conflict with his victims. He just wants them dead.

DrFrankSays

I thought it was obvious that it is Dennis Reynolds.

stratewylin

The real killer… is Mac!

G1ng3rb0b

PepperJack loves FraggleRock.

BlueP0werRanger34

*borat voice* very nice

StreetReporter

I’ll get the chainsaw

issacoin

Nah it was a painter and a psycho clown

txevo

Nah hes just datin a tranny

TVaddict66

Maybe they figured out it was creed the whole time and that’s why he was arrested.

jayrick04

I always HATE the Toby being the strangler theories. He goes to visit the strangler in prison and comes out having gotten nearly strangled to death. (Obviously Toby isn’t the strangler if he got strangled) 😂

richawesomness

They say he went to visit him and told the prisoner that HE was the real strangler and that's why the prisoner choked him.

ghostinthechell

And Mindy Kaling said Toby isn't the strangler. I know who I'm listening to.

Jupiters

Also: "A new member posting about how Jim and/or Pam are actually bad people."

SaucepanSamurai

I was predicting it was going to be revealed to be creed on the last episode

Love_Never_Shuns

You have a lot to learn about this sub, sweetie.

Anafenza-Vess

I like to think that Michael was supposed to find out and nobody would believe him since he hates Toby

samurai_guitarist

The new guy about to post this: - why are you the way that you are? Honestly every time I try to do sth fun or exciting, you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things you choose to be

Poseidons_Champion

It’s Deangelo. Prove me wrong.

Fuzzy-Function-3212

Nate in blackface confirmed, got it

Slightlydifficult

I know the real answer is that they never felt the need to flesh out the story but I’m 100% convinced that early on they were planning on revealing it to be Gabe. The first time we hear about the Strangler is shortly after he moved to town and that dude was a straight up creep.

mama_emily

**shut up about the Scranton strangler….SHUT UP ABOUT THE SCRANTON STRANGLER**

LoveRBS

I haven't seen anybody accuse Jan yet. Why not Jan? She's got plenty of time off from her zero benefits "job"

rTidde77

Babe

ActionHousevh

Nice try, Toby

AmateurZombie

TED CRUZ IS THE SCRANTON STRANGLER

mythoryk

The SS chose his victims by their reaction to him flashing them… Phyllis’ reaction saved her life.

ThisIsYourMormont

So I found evidence that Toby was the Scranton Strangler, here take it… and shove it up your butt

Sundayx1

I like the post suspecting Gabe is the SS. His behavior at Robert California’s pool party was a bit off- lol!

[deleted]

Template please

AdvocateDoogy

There's literally an episode where Toby actually gets *strangled* by the Strangler. He survived, much to Michael's disappointment.

IINorse

It was the IT Guy 100%

PickledYetti

However. Ryan started the fire

JarusHarsh

About Micheal actually being a smart and amazing manager

mentalpatient69

Can anyone explain this theory, I've heard it mentioned a lot But I haven't actually heard it

SkySlow4387

Have you lost your damn mind?!

bomboclawt75

It’s fellow Philadelphian Dennis Reynolds. Check out his tools in the trunk. “TOOLS! TOOLS!, DUCT TAPE, ZIP TIES, GLOVES, I LIKE TO BIND!!!!! I HAVE TO HAVE MY TOOLS!!!”

Away_Clerk_5848

IT’S GAAAAAAABE!

Penguator432

If Toby was the Scranton Strangler then Michael would be dead.

DOW_orks7391

Same could be said about Creed being under rated.

whiteleshy

You'll see

SPONGEBOB_IS_MY_DAD

It’s definitely Kevin tho right?

VibraniumRhino

I’m well past this theory and mostly just wanna know what happened to the guy that was very likely wrongfully accused of the Strangler’s crimes lol.

BoromirWasInnocent

It's More and Dwight knows it

auspostery

I cackled out loud at this!

aCatLunchbox

If Toby was the strangler, Michael would be dead.

joker1b

It was CeeCee

Banks_bread

🤣🤣

sc122k

This is a good meme. Thought I would say.

daniel-mca

Not even gonna lie, I stole this guys idea. Thought if the Strangler posts as soon as i seen it. https://www.reddit.com/r/IASIP/comments/ok651q/a_hot_button_issue/

OsskaSchindla

Agreed.

Doopadaptap

In Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Fun Run Pro Am Race for the Cure.

No_Display588

Bro it was Micheal!!! After he left the show the show went on. There are two major clues proving it was Micheal after His character left the show. I tried telling my family but no one believes me. I can prove it.

Impressive_Program57

Creed is the Scranton Strangler.

PippityPoppity_

Toby did it, dammit

AmidalaBills

Jim is the most likely office worker to be the strangler.

Slightlydifficult

Before the Superfan cut it was easily the most cringe episode. It physically hurt to watch. Now I think that Phylss’ wedding is worse, though Michael going to business school had some really cringe moments too.

ambergirl9860

This is so true
